With the wildfires last year and recent comments from Green, I think it's a matter of time before big changes are going to come for us STR owners out here... I mean I get it, everything is so expensive and workers need a place to live. Anyone else been making plans in case they start enacting bans?

the owners out there that I know of are all renting their pre-existing vacation homes. Hawaii always had a large number of mainland people with 2nd homes on the islands. I doubt regulations will free up these vacation homes to "housing" for workers. If anything, the government loses out on more tax revenue from less tourists and less jobs for workers managing and maintaining properties. Most of these houses will then just sit empty like they did before the world of airbnb and vrbo.

Well, looks like Maui is making the first move after Green signed the bill.. 7000 less STR's over the next 2 years. Does that mean that those on Maui that don't get their STR wiped out will see their profits surge? It's a matter of supply and demand..
