Insurance and pets - Inspired - 12-24-2025
I just renewed my insurance policy. The company they are no longer covering pets brought by guests. Will airbnb coverage suffice? Wondering if I should still accept pets but only if they are if a safer breed? Can I buy a separate policy for this? Ideas would be appreciated. What’s interesting is that last month out of the total of 7 guests 3 brought their pets without telling us…..so even if we don’t allow pets I think this coverage is important.

What I found helped with limiting undisclosed pets was a note to the guest, in the Airbnb app, that says the access code will be sent as soon as they confirm the number of guests and pets.

If you are having 3 out of 7 guests bringing in un-authorized pets you should revisit your hosting strategy. Post a hefty fine for unauthorized pets in the listing info even if it's something that will be hard to collect on. Are you accepting guests with terrible reviews? I've only had 1 person ask about bringing a pet when I clearly say no pets and 0 ended up brining one to my knowledge.

I suggest putting something like "Due to our insurance policy, pets are strictly forbidden on our property. Violation of this will result in a cancellation of stay. If you have pets, please consider a different property to avoid unnecessary cancellations to your trip".
